Massage Spas

Is it worth it? The average spa, salon, clinic, or independent professional will charge $60 – 80, plus tips, for a 1-hour massage. Pampered, nurtured, and relaxed, chances are you will emerge from your session feeling, at that moment in time, that it was worth every dollar you spent. So will you reschedule? When will you treat yourself again? For so many of us that depends on our ability to afford it. Maybe next payday or worst yet maybe you have to wait until the next birthday, mother’s day, or until a loved one takes pity on you and answers your silent (or maybe not so silent) pleas for a much needed massage gift certificate. If only you could afford this stress reducing, mind refreshing, body enhancing service more often.
Fortunately, you can. As the demand for massage therapy has increased several companies and resources have emerged that have made the services more affordable and accessible. They are as follows:
Membership Spas – Membership spas, such as Massage Envy and Massage Heights, offer super affordable introductory massage rates. For only $39 you can receive a one hour massage from a CMT (Certified Massage Therapist) or LMT (License Massage Therapist). (Necessary therapist requirements are determined by each state). In order to continue to receive discounted services you must sign up for their monthly membership. For $49 a month you are entitled to one full hour massage. If you want additional services or wish to purchase gift certificates you can at a reduced rate. You can cancel at any time. Both Massage Envy and Massage Heights are nationwide franchises. Visit their respective websites to find a location near you.
Massage School Clinics – Most massage schools offer a massage clinic in an effort to provide practical experience for their students. For rates ranging from $10 – 40 you can receive a massage from a student massage therapist. Tips are welcomed but not usually expected. According to state laws and accreditation standards, students must be supervised by a professional (CMT or LMT) massage therapist. By patronizing the massage schools clinics you have the opportunity to get a quality affordable session while helping to develop an upcoming professional.
Classified Sites – Classified sites such as Craigslist., Kijiji, and BackPage allow professionals to effectively advertise their services, discounts, and special rates. Independent Professionals are known to slide rates, in the customer’s favor, when their appointment book has undesired vacancies. You can also post an ad, for free, on these sites advertising that you are looking for a specific service within a particular price range. Professionals will eagerly respond. As always, do your research. Interview the therapist. Ask about their credentials, education, and style of massage. Request references and any additional information that will allow you to make a decision as to if the professional that you are considering is the right fit for you.
So, what are you waiting on? No matter what your budget you can afford a massage. Maybe you can’t afford to go to that upscale spa or salon on a regular basis but there’s not excuse why you can’t add a quality affordable massage as a part or your normal wellness regimen and remember, there’s always a special occasion coming up that will warrant a gift certificate to your spa of choice
