Detox 101 – Super Simple Detox

By Irina Wardas

Detox and cleanse are very popular words nowadays, especially in spring. Many of us are into detox: we want to try it, we all have opinions how to do it, we like it or we hate it. It might be a recipe for a drink, or a several day procedure, or maybe even fasting, juicing or profound cleansing program with professional help.

First, what is a toxin, anyway? It is basically any substance that creates irritating or harmful effects in the body, which can sometimes even damage our tissues and organs. A lot of people are not aware of the fact that everything we breathe, eat, drink, and even touch, contain toxins; in other words, we can acquire toxins from our environment by breathing them, by ingesting them, or through physical contact with them.

Toxins can be poisons, heavy metals, pesticides, fungicides, cleaning solvents, smog, and many substances that we don’t even know are leeching into our bodies via our clothing our furniture, and even out carpets. Did you know that the worst toxins we can ingest are put into our foods as additives and preservatives?

Our body itself produces toxins through its normal every day functions. Fats, free radicals, different irritating substances act as toxins on the internal level. Our body is very intelligent, it is functioning non-stop 24/7 and obviously there are toxins that need to be eliminated. When these substances are not eliminated, they can cause irritation or inflammation of the cells and tissues, blocking normal functions on a cellular, organ and whole body level.

We have to listen to our bodies because they always try to tell us if something is wrong. An overloaded body will alert you that it is in a toxic state by sending out messages in the form of fatigue, gas, headaches, food cravings, constipation, food allergies, chronic pain, blood sugar imbalances, attention problems, premenstrual syndrome, poor sleep, acne and other skin problems, poor digestion, bad breath, etc.

Detox is a relative term, because anything that supports elimination can be said to help us detoxify. As a matter of fact, our body cleanses itself by an absolutely natural process. If the body is working well with good immune and eliminative system, we can handle the basic every day exposure to toxins. But sometimes we need to change our dietary (healthier food choices) and lifestyle (clearing toxins by sweating, either from exercise or heat) habits to reduce intake of toxins and improve elimination.

You may be amazed with the fact that simply drinking more water (filtered of course!) helps us eliminate more toxins. Shifting from the most congesting foods (sweets, diary products, bread, fats, fried foods, refined flours, meats, hydrogenated fats, drugs) to the least (fruits and vegetables, grains, nuts and legumes) can help most of us detoxify somewhat and bring us into balance in general.

And we don’t need an excuse to wait for spring to cleanse our bodies, we can do it using seasonable super foods, such as apples, beets, garlic, leafy greens, lemons, onions, radish, seaweed, turnip, watermelon, etc. We need to include these fantastic fruits and vegetables in our routine and use one or two every day. Why? Because these fruit and vegetables purify our blood, purify and protect our liver, cleanse the intestines, help excrete heavy metals, improve the cleansing function of the glands, purify our gastrointestinal GI tract. In case you have forgotten by now, we are talking about whole foods only- fruits and vegetables, not drugs or magic pills!!!! Amazing? Isn’t it? The power of food can make miracles!

As we can see, cleansing body will involve some dietary and lifestyle changes, but it doesn’t have to be a torture experience. Simply eating cleansing super foods every day can increase your energy, bolster your immune system and leave you with healthy routine to live by all year long.

We do need to cleanse our bodies not to become a toxic dump. The question is how far we should go, what type of cleansing will work for us. Well, it depends on our current diet, our physical state and energy level, in other words, it depends on our individual lifestyle and needs.

What is Peel Skin Treatment?

By Amy Nutt

The peel skin treatment, is a beauty treatment that has been used since the 1930′s for acne and wrinkle care and general improvement of the face. It’s helped many people reduce the damage caused to their skin as a result of scarring caused by acne as well as the effects of aging. The peel skin treatment is a six to nine day chemical method of gradually peeling the outer skin layers to reveal healthier, blemish and wrinkle-free skin layers underneath. It rejuvenates the skins appearance and helps to stimulate the lower layers of the skin to produce more healthier skin cells. It uses special chemicals that induce the outer layers of fine skin tissue to peel away evenly, a carefully controlled process that takes six to nine days to complete for optimum results.

While peel skin treatment used to be offered only in a doctor’s office, thanks to today’s inventions and less harmful chemicals, it can be done safely in the comfort of your own home. There are several excellent product lines available over the counter that can be used by anyone to dramatically improve the youthful glow of their skin. The skin peel can also be used effectively to remove such nuisances as age spots, freckles, and hyper pigmentation in the skin caused by sun damage or illness. If used over the prescribed six to nice days, the skin will peel evenly to reveal skin that is clear of these pigment issues.

The peel skin treatment is also useful to people who suffer from acne and blackheads, caused by clogged pores or toxic buildup in the skin. As the chemicals gently work on the layers of the skin, the pores are opened up, infectious oil, bacteria and toxins are expelled from the skin and the complexion is cleared. This is much less damaging than trying to squeeze the oil out of the skin or using other methods. The peel skin method leaves less noticeable scars and even improves the condition of existing acne scars or oversized pores. Skin is then free of marks and is restored to its former beauty.

Another advantage of using the skin peel method of improving the look of your skin is that it evens out the skin tones and reduces the affects of skin damage to the lower layers of the skin. Sometimes this damage can’t be seen right away, but over time it’s what causes wrinkles and discoloration to form. Using the skin peel, these damaged layers gradually work their way to the surface where they are sloughed off and new healthier skin layers can form. Using a skin peel followed by wearing proper sunscreen can slow down the aging process and preserve the younger skin underneath from further damage.

When used properly, the peel skin treatment is an effective means to improve the look and feel of your skin. Be sure to choose high quality products that are right for your skin type and consult with a knowledgeable skin care specialist before attempting to do this at home.

Which Type of Chemical Peel is Right For You?

By Justin DiMateo

If you are considering cosmetic surgery to treat surface blemishes or discolorations on your skin, you will be happy to know that there are many treatments to choose from today. So how do you know which one is right for you? Read on for tips on how to choose a chemical peel that will leave your skin looking smoother, fresher and younger.

Chemical peel types fall into three basic categories. Superficial peels are designed to treat surface problems quickly and painlessly without the need for anesthetic or medication. However, these treatments are not the most effective option for many blemishes, especially those that go deeper than the skin‘s surface. Deep chemical peels will go through many layers of skin to get at the source of a problem, but they also carry a higher risk and a longer recovery time.

This is why most cosmetic surgery patients will choose a medium peel as the treatment of choice. This type of chemical peel will effectively treat fine lines, liver spots and other types of skin discoloration without a high risk of side effects and minimal discomfort. If a medium peel sounds like the best choice for your situation, the next step will be to talk to your doctor about the best kind of chemical to use to achieve the desired results.

The most common chemical used for a medium peel is trichloroacetic acid or TCA. TCA is the main solution used in these types of chemical peels because it can effectively remove the surface layer of skin without a high risk of complications. This chemical may be your doctor’s first choice since it is used most often and doctors are fairly familiar with the types of results to expect.

Another chemical that is getting used more and more often in a chemical peel today is salicylic acid. This substance is found in many acne treatment formulas and also as a food preservative. However, while concentrations found in acne treatments is less than 5%, the concentration used for this type of chemical peel is as high as 20-30%. Overall, chemical peels using salicylic acid have had favorable results for patients, so this substance continues to be used for this purpose in many dermatologists’ offices.

What to Expect

If you choose this type of chemical peel, treatment will actually begin a few weeks prior to your procedure. Your doctor will have you use a special moisturizer daily that will help prepare your skin for the peel. It will also be essential for you to wear sunscreen without fail in the days leading up to your chemical peel. On the day of the procedure, you may be given pain medication and a sedative to make you more comfortable during the peel. The process usually takes about 40 minutes to complete and four to seven days for the skin to heal.

This type of chemical peel can be effective for treating a range of skin imperfections and discolorations. If you are interested in learning more about this process and what it can do for you, make an appointment with a dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon to find out what your options are in chemical peels.
